Sheembra, a tranquil village nestled along the sacred Suvarnaa River near Udupi, has long been recognized as a place of spiritual significance. Surrounded by nature and enriched by centuries of devotion, the region has preserved its sacred traditions through generations. Today, Sheembra Shree Siddhivinayaka Temple stands as a symbol of unwavering faith, divine grace, and the enduring spiritual heritage of Tulunadu.
Temple tradition narrates that the original idol of Shree Siddhivinayaka was washed away into the holy Suvarnaa River following a landslide many years ago. Sometime later, a local devotee discovered the sacred idol while bathing in the river. Recognizing its divine significance, he reverently worshipped the idol in his family's Nagabana before it was later moved to the nearby Shree Mahalingeshwara Temple. As an offering of devotion, he presented rice harvested from his own "Devasya" field to Shree Siddhivinayaka—a field that continues to remain with his descendants.
During an Ashta Mangala Prashna, it was advised that two idols of Lord Ganapati should not be consecrated within the same temple. Respecting this divine guidance, the village elders, together with the support of the Manipal Group and generous local devotees, constructed a separate temple dedicated to the recovered idol. Land was voluntarily donated, and the access road was built through the collective efforts of the local community. This act of devotion gave rise to the present-day Sheembra Shree Siddhivinayaka Temple, which continues to welcome devotees from across the country.
Today, Sheembra Shree Siddhivinayaka Temple has grown into one of the prominent pilgrimage centres in Udupi district. Situated beside the sacred Krishnaangaraka Chaturdashi Snana Ghat on the banks of the Suvarnaa River, the temple is governed by Sode Shree Vadiraja Matha and administered by the Sheembra Shree Siddhivinayaka Temple Trust (R.) under the guidance of Jagadguru Parama Poojya Sri Sri Vishwavallabha Theertha Sripadaru. Preserving centuries-old traditions while serving the spiritual needs of devotees, the temple remains a sacred destination where faith, devotion, and heritage continue to flourish.
